Last year, I was able to send out regular travelogue updates from South Korea by balancing my laptop on my father-in-law’s sink to get a wireless signal through the window. In Bhutan, I don’t expect to have that luxury. The government of Bhutan lifted a ban on the internet in 1999. The first internet cafe opened there in 2000, and while there are more of them now, I don’t think the country is heavily wired. I don’t even plan to lug around my laptop. If I have a chance to duck into a cafe, I may post some short dispatches, but my plan is to handwrite everything in my journal and type it up when I return home, which is what I did when we went to Peru. I am sure there will be lots to tell upon our return.
