I was born and raised in Iowa, and attended Iowa State University, where I received a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication. I moved to Southern California in the mid 1990s to work in film publicity and finally ended up in the San Francisco bay area in 2001. It is a terrific place for artists and writers, and I have found the artistic community here to be amazingly supportive.
My husband, Stephen Bay, and I love to travel and try to take at least one trip every year. The list of places we want to visit is quite long, so I doubt I will ever run out of topics to write about.
Yes, that is a rat on my shoulder in the above picture. My husband and I used to keep pet rats. Rats make delightful companions, contrary to what many people may think. They are social, friendly and clever. They know their names and can learn many tricks and perform feats of agility. However, rats only live about 2-4 years, which is depressingly short. So we now have a dog instead. Her name is Chiqui and she is a Black Lab/Pit Bull mix, and she is an adorable goofball.
